On July 1st, the Manifesto Festival presented an MJ tribute jam at Dundas Square in Toronto, Canada. 30,000 Torontonians came out to bust a move in honour and celebration of the life of the one and only King of Pop, Michael Jackson. In August 2007, I had the honor of styling and producing the Canadian Launch of Dereon for the beautiful and talented Beyonce Knowles, mother Tina, and sister Solange. It was most definitely one of my career highlights and was an opportunity that doesn’t present itself in Canada very often. Having produced countless shows for Toronto Fashion Week since 2001, and having worked with so many designers and brands, my experience with Beyonce and Dereon still remains close to my heart.

Now the mother and daughter design team, Beyonce and Tina Knowles are planning on launching a new junior apparel line, Sasha Fierce, named after the singer’s alter ego and third solo album, “I am…Sasha Fierce”

The collection, which is inspired by Beyoncé’s stage presence (she is on a world tour through November), includes a full range of sportswear, outerwear, handbags, footwear, eyewear, lingerie and jewelry. Positioned to sit alongside the company’s Deréon junior label, which is similarly priced, the line has so far been picked up by department stores including Macy’s and Dillard’s and specialty stores Jimmy Jazz and Against All Odds.

The collection, Tina said, is “edgier and trendier and reflects Sasha Fierce’s daring and outgoing attitude.”

The jewelry, shoes and eyewear, she added, “are really over the top” with large chains made in mixed metals such as silver with gold, heavily studded shoes and oversize sunglasses such as the ones Beyoncé has been seen wearing on tour. The clothes are a little more subdued to make the accessories stand out — a one-shoulder dress, black bodysuit, fake leather jacket with oversize collar, leggings and destructed jeans with mesh and lace details lining the ripped material.

Beyoncé, who said in a statement “the line really exudes a different side of my personality, which I am grateful that I can express,” had a lot of say in the creation of the collection, Tina said.

Congrats to my girl Shannae from What Women Want, for yet another successful annual “Wine, Dine and Shop in a Dress” Event, which took place @ C-Lounge on Sunday afternoon from 1pm-6pm. I was blown away by the turnout this year and even more blown away by the good vibes. I walked into a packed house of hundreds of well dressed women, who literally put on their Sunday best to attend this amazing networking/shopping event. Shay works so hard to ensure every detail is perfect and her hard work clearly pays off. We had a blast. I’m so proud of you girl! xo

I finally got the world’s first digital clutch, which I’ve been eying since it’s Canadian launch in Jan 2009. I’m a MAC girl, but I had to get a PC to accommodate new software I had in my store. Many people have suggested I get a MAC then just add Windows, but I really just needed something small and light that could fit in my purse daily. The HP Mini 1000 by Vivienne Tam seems like it might just be the perfect little machine for simple every day tasks. It’s not exactly the most powerful machine I’ve ever used, but I’m such a sucker for great packaging. I have a couple weeks to review it, so I’ll let you know how it goes. Hopefully, this means more frequent blogs!

On Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 2:26pm, our most beloved “King of Pop”, Michael Jackson was pronounced dead. He was 50. Michael Jackson was the ‘Barack Obama of Pop Music’ and not only will his musical legacy live on forever, so will his unique style and spectacular wardrobe. Michael Jackson’s silouette can be recognized worldwide and just like his music, may very well never be matched by anyone in our lifetime.
